Anuradhapura
One of the world’s most extensive ruined cities, the royal capital of Anuradhapura was a great Buddhist centre, surrounded by magnificent monasteries, dagobas, and associated buildings.
Kandy
The last capital of the ancient kings’ era, the peaceful city of Kandy is home to the Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most venerable places for the Buddhist community around the world.
Sigiriya
Another of the Cultural Triangle’s great historic sites is the Sigiriya citadel, with ornamental gardens laid by King Kassapa in the fifth century, as well as the towering clifftop palace.
Sinharaja
With a name meaning “Lion Kingdom”, Sinharaja Forest Reserve is a national park and a biodiversity hotspot in Sri Lanka, designated a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Dambulla

Polonnaruwa
Located in the North Central Province, Polonnaruwa is the second most ancient of Sri Lanka’s kingdoms, which was declared the capital city from the 11th century AD until the 13th century.
Galle
Situated on the southwestern tip of Sri Lanka, Galle is a major city with extensive history, including the Galle Fort, the largest remaining fortress built by European occupiers in Asia.
Central Highlands
The newest recognised UNESCO World Heritage site in Sri Lanka, the Central Highlands comprises the Peak Wilderness Protected Area, the Horton Plains National Park, and the Knuckles Conservation Forest.
